As any veteran diver will tell you, the equipment that you use can make all of the difference in the world. This is true when it comes to both the overall dive experience and the safety of the diver and those accompanying them. In selecting your dive equipment you may be considering using nitrox tanks and wondering whether or not it is right for you and your diving. Here is a brief guide to help you understand what nitrox is and why you may want to use it for your scuba diving.

Air is a mixture of primarily two gases, approximately 21 per cent oxygen and 79 per cent nitrogen. Nitrogen is the culprit in causing decompression sickness, more commonly know as the "bends". This fact will be important as we discuss enriched air advantages. Enriched air is the result of adding oxygen to air, raising the level of oxygen in the mixture to between 22 per cent and 99 per cent. However, for recreational purposes enriched air blends range from 22 per cent to 40 per cent oxygen. Nitrox is often referred to as "enriched air"; however there is a difference between the two. Nitrox refers to any nitrogen-oxygen mixture, while enriched air is air that has some oxygen added.

Let me start off by saying that you can only learn scuba from a qualified instructor, that is right an instructor. You can't read an article, have a friend show you, or watch divers and know enough to strap on a tank and go diving. Why Not? If not properly trained scuba diving can be a very dangerous sport.

Deep sea diving or commercial diving is a profession that is not for all people. In this profession, you should be in a good physical condition, and you also need to have a sharp mind. Being a commercial diver is not just about knowing how to weld pipes underwater as well as handle explosives, but there are a lot more specialty courses that you can concentrate on in commercial diving.
