Controlling mold with the use of an ozone generator is considered one of the industrial applications of ozone. But what is ozone and why does it help control mold?

There are many electronic stores which now sell ozone generators as air purifiers. The manufacturers of these ozone generators also claim that the device is effective against air pollution and there need not be any worries as to how safe it is. However, there are many health organizations across America including the American Lung Association which have claimed that ozone can be seriously harmful to our health and these devices should never be sold disguised as air purifiers.

Ozone is what is known as an allotrope of oxygen; instead of a single molecule, it results from the bonding of three oxygen molecules. Most people don’t realize it, but oxygen is actually toxic in large amounts; therefore, ozone is triply toxic.

The smells of contaminants like new carpets and acrolein, pet odors and tobacco smoke, bacteria smell and rotten odors can be specially removed through the help of ozone air-purifiers. Ozone is a highly reactive oxidant that aids in the destruction of certain bacteria, chemicals and other contaminants in the air.

It is important to kill mold because it is a very hardy organism that can thrive almost anywhere and everywhere that humans live. Mold spores can be found in the very air that we breathe, and are able to reproduce rapidly when they are deposited on surfaces that have a great deal of moisture on them. Even surfaces that you think are perfectly dry may actually have a great deal of moisture because moisture is present in air all the time (except in very arid environments.)

Ozone air-purifiers are known for their effectiveness of reducing the odors in your room or surrounding spaces. So the ozone air-purifiers can prove to be truly effective for cleaning the air in the surroundings.

What is the best method of air purification for indoor gardens? There is no one answer to this question, although carbon filters are one economical solution to this problem.

In 1999, the Mayo Clinic has observed that sinusitis can primarily be attributed to mold exposure. Many cases of asthma are reportedly caused by exposure to mold and mildew as well. These fungi that appear both outdoors and indoors release airborne allergens that causes a variety of ailments in varying degrees of seriousness. Commonly, surface molds produce mild to moderate ill effects while the most notorious ones, the toxic molds, could lead to more severe health concerns. One such mold is known as the stachybotrys.

Molds naturally occur in the environment as a decomposer. It thrives in places that are humid and wet. Water is a necessary ingredient for the generation of mold in the environment. Molds, however, do not just emerge outdoors, but may also be found in buildings and homes. Flooded homes and buildings with leaky roofs, water leaks, and drainage problems, are favorite sites to find mold. Mold can often be found in damp basements, kitchen cabinets, attics, laundry areas, and shower rooms.

The two most common electronic air purifies are negative ion generators and ozone air purifiers. Simply put, the former produces negative ions that attach themselves to the pollutants in the air thus removing them from the air that we breathe.

Several scientific studies have confirmed that exposure to molds can trigger different health reactions from different people. The most common and mildest reactions are nasal congestion, irritation of the eyes, and slight skin itching. Exposure to higher concentrations of mold can cause fever and lung infections if unabated. Depending on the person, however, mold may trigger more severe and long-term ailments such as asthma, chronic sinusitis and others more because research has shown that mold may damage a person's immune system, thereby making the person susceptible to other diseases.

Air Purifiers are all the rage now, everybody has them and everybody sells them. There are Ionic Air Purifiers, regular filter Purifiers and HEPA filter purifiers.

Mold removal falls under the scope of the larger field of mold remediation. Usually, mold remediation entails complete elimination of mold from indoor areas, such as rooms in condominiums and offices. Mold growth is a common problem that is covered in occupational health. Mold usually grows in moist environments, such as rooms that do not have adequate ventilation and leave moisture trapped within the room's structure. Mold can be dangerous to people who are allergic to it or have some kind of physical reaction to the presence of mold spores in the air.

Wet rags, wash cloths, clothes, carpets, doormats and other fabrics that have been left damp for over 24 hours seem harmless enough but they can become loaded with mildew without proper ventilation. Actually, any wet object can be a site for growing molds in the home.

Swimming pool sanitation plays a very significant role in preventing diseases from being transmitted from a swimmer to another swimmer. Water management in a swimming pool should be one of the factors that pool operators should give sufficient attention to, just like how they provide a lifeguard to ensure the safety of swimmers.

Mold indoors may lead to mildew. Mold is essentially fungi that propagate in very humid and poorly ventilated locations such as the corners of the house, the bathroom, the kitchen drawers, under the sink, and damp places. Mold reproduces through its spores and these spores like to attach themselves to wet places and things. Favorite places are wet clothes, rugs, and carpets. Once mold has attached itself to these things, mildew is formed. Thus, mildew is mold that has attached itself to a fabric.

The Journal of the American Medical Association now suggests that the air pollution existing today in the US raises the risk of lung disease to a point where more than half of the US population is breathing unhealthy amounts of air pollution . More than 50 million Americans seem to be suffering from allergies and more than 20 million battle asthma. There is such a thing as Sick Building Syndrome, a worldwide phenomenon, when chemical substances used in office construction such as glue, insulating materials, cardboard, and fiberglass are steadily released into the atmosphere from electronic equipment, carpeting, furniture and fittings.

As the fires subsided in San Diego, people have found that even though the smoke has gone away, the smoke odor has not. It was embedded in the carpet, on the walls, in the upholstered furniture and in the drapes. Retail clothing stores found that the smoke had permeated their whole inventory and that the odor needed to be removed before the clothing could be sold. Here is how you do it...

Mold, one of the most notorious allergic naturally occurring substances, can be found not only outdoors but indoors as well. This fungus which often takes the shape of a fuzzy, sometimes velvety clump can be found almost anywhere. Outdoors, they are more commonly found and in their highest quantities, around and on decomposing matter such as rotten logs, trash, dead animal bodies, and in moist and dark areas such as canals.
