This is the eighth in a series of fifteen articles about our journey into North Central Ontario. We arrived in Cochrane, Ontario, yesterday and will visit the Polar Bear Habitat today. Our excitement was building about ridding the Polar Bear Express as we saw the train depart for today's trip to Moosonee. Tomorrow we would be the passengers. Manitoba is a province in Canada and is found in the western region of Canada. It boarders North Dakota and Minnesota. It has a population of about 1.2 million people. It is a province that experiences extreme temperatures. This province is pretty much flat and so it experiences a lot of temperatures extremes.
Teddy bears come in all sorts of different shapes, sizes and colors; some are even made of stone while others are soft enough to sleep on. With so many out there it is pretty hard to figure out which ones are collectible teddy bears and which aren't. There are a few companies out there that stand out amongst all those others; they are Merrythought, Boyds, and Gund. Yes, it is true there were toys that had bears on them, but they did not actually have stuffed teddy bears before 1902. In 1981, a man named John Sortino that would create the Vermont Teddy Bears. Creating his company would always be easy, he hit one obstacle after another. At first he couldn't find anyone willing to put his bears in their stores, in the end he decided to sell them on his own in the streets. He'd stroll up and down the roads with his little push-cart full of teddy bears, proudly showing them off to anyone that came near.
