Preeclampsia is high blood pressure that is limited to pregnant and recently postpartum women. No one knows the exact cause for preeclampsia and the only 'cure' is delivery of the baby.

Hypertension is more commonly known as high blood pressure. About five percent of women who are pregnant will experience gestational hypertension, or pregnancy induced hypertension.

Pregnancy with high blood pressure requires special care for both the mother and the fetus. Some women can control high blood pressure through diet and exercise, by reducing salt intake and oil, and with medication.

Pregnancies inherently have risks but especially for women who are over the age of 40.
