I've recently been hearing a lot about Qigong (pronounced chee-GONG). I've heard it referenced in connection with exercise, relaxation and balance. Since these are subjects that I'm always interested in, and thinking that it was the new "thing", I started doing some research on what Qigong is.

The word 'Qigong' is made up of the two words 'Qi' (meaning breath or gas in Mandarin) and 'Gong' (meaning technique or work). Thus Qigong basically means 'breath work'. Qigong, therefore, is a technique of traditional Chinese medicine involving the regulation and coordination of breathing patterns to ensure good health.

A lot of martial artists are disparaging of anything they don't learn in a dojo, and perhaps with some justification. However, after I beat the crap out of my feet doing dumb things learning about footwear (see my article on footwear for more. I do stupid things so you don't have to.
