Q2ID is a plugin for the industry-leading desktop publishing and design software Adobe InDesign. This simple but extremely useful utility provides an essential function for anyone migrating from QuarkXPress or using both applications side by side. Quick and easy to install and run, the plugin provides seamless conversion of your QuarkXPress projects so that you can open and edit them in Adobe InDesign without any restrictions.

You cannot learn how to use Quark just by reading this article. However, you can introduce yourself to Quark products and the basic functions of each product. If you've ever wished you could create professional-quality graphics, then Quark is for you.

A simply example of the procedure is as follows: open up Microsoft Excel to create a basic spreadsheet of 5 columns by 5 rows. An example is shown here. It's important to note that the top row should always represent the value fields, for example First Name, Surname, Company, Location and Event. We then added the various pieces of data and went to the top File menu to choose Save As, then Other Formats, and the CSV format.

When making the final tweaks to a document in Adobe Indesign many designers will align the text to a Baseline Grid. This feature will ensure that the baseline of each line of text in adjacent columns line up with each other. What is this baseline? This is a publisher's term for an invisible line which runs along the bottom of each line of text. The baseline grid is the regular pattern of such lines on each page of the document.

A decade or so ago the publishing software were distinctly divided into two groups, desktop and professional. On one side were PageMaker and on the other FrameMaker and QuarkXPress.

Adobe Indesign is the world-wide leader for creating professional-looking publications and, as such, it's used by graphic designers, fashion designer and magazine publishers the world over. Indesign, in conjunction with Photoshop and Illustrator, is used widely in the fashion industry, for creating publications like brochures and flyers, storyboards and price books, posters and banners for websites.

In creating your own flyer, you can just use Photoshop and Word. If you however want to do it close to that of a professional, you can use Indesign or QuarkXPress. Just prepare your photos in Photoshop and then transfer them into Indesign or QuarkXPress. Word can be used to layout your design, but it will be very difficult to have it the way you want it to.

Documents, such as brochures, annual reports and newsletters often require page numbers. This is a straight-forward matter of using Master-Page elements and an automation feature of Indesign. Firstly we double-click on a master-page thumbnail in the Pages panel (for example the default A-Master page) to go into the master page environment.

In a time where digital print is on demand, the file type that has made this possible is the PDF. PDF has allowed both professionals and amateurs to create artwork and have it printed professionally. Large format digital print is now accessible to all.

I find it a delight to use both as an author and a publisher. It is full of nice little surprises that make the whole process of writing, reading and publishing articles a complete delight. This is one that comes out tops and beats the rest hands down.

I did a Google search and came across your site. It was exactly what I was looking for and was elated to find such a broad range of articles. As I am launching a free magazine in a small town in Florida, I wanted to be as resourceful as possible while still being able to provide some content that is interesting and well written. Your site has all the variables in the mix. Excellent Site hitting all the notes in the scale sort of speak.
