When teaching your children how to read I would stick to the basics and not try and bring in new any ideas for teaching reading. The tried and trusted methods of teaching reading have been already taught many, many children so why experiment with new ideas.

The quicker you can improve your reading skill, the better it is for you to gain more knowledge that you need to succeed, especially in today's world that thrives on information.

There are debates over which methods are better, and ultimately it comes down to personal choice. One thing that many within the scientific community tend to agree with is that speed reading will never be able to allow you to fully understand the contents of a page, but rather just get the gist of what the passage or story is talking about.

Guided Reading is when the children can read by themselves. With guided reading always start with something easy to read to help build confidence. Usually your child should be able to understand about 90 per cent of the book. It is better to start with picture books so your child can look at the pictures to get the words.

Whether you are a student with a huge amount of reading for your psychology class or you are constantly trying to work your way through a full email inbox at work, you have probably found yourself wishing you could read just a bit faster.

Parents at times feel uneasy reading to their children. It could be for numerous different reasons. Perhaps they don't take to reading themselves. Possibly their reading skills are not the best. Or maybe they feel like they have to produce comical faces and make un-natural sounds in order to read a little one's book. So for fear of embarrassment, they pass on the reading assignment.
