Appliances, electronics, gadgets and all those other miscellaneous gizmos we have in our homes will all eventually become obsolete, broken or simply unwanted. When that day comes, there is a way to recycle them.

When the ink in your printer cartridge runs out, what do you do? Do you just chuck the printer ink cartridge in with the trash, or do you recycle them?

We do our best to collect as many items as possible from our homes , in our daily lives, for recycling purposes. With that in mind, we keep a large blue recycle bin in our kitchen for that very purpose.

Drywall, wallboard or gypsum are just a few of the many names this common building material is referred to. The big question surrounding this material is the reason why there is a need for it to be diverted from the landfill.

The recent move by the Canadian Government to ban Polycarbonate plastic baby bottles has stirred up a lot of concern over plastic use for food and drink. The attention also prompted some issues over the recycling of plastics. There are seven categories of plastics, which are denoted by a number encased within a recycling symbol. The numbers range from #1 through to #7. All have different chemical composition that ultimately determines their use.

It is estimated that roughly 350 million cartridges end up in landfills every year. Obviously this is a staggering number, but what is upsetting about it is that number could easily be greatly reduced. If everyone made an effort to recycle their cartridges in some way, either through a recycling service or just by refilling and reusing the cartridges themselves, we would not face such an ugly statistic.

Personally I've had allot of monitors as the last 10 years have seen the sizes jump and the prices drop. Really, I've only ever had to dispose of the odd one. Ha-ha, although now that I think about it I have a 14" sitting on my driveway soaking up the rain. So this article is for those once in a blue moon times when your faced with what to do with you're old clunker. Most of them weigh a ton and are too unattractive for a paper weight. Although can be used for door stoppers I've seen but it's rare.

Cans, foil, and other items such as trays are made out of aluminium. In North America one of the major product being recycled is aluminium. Though Americans recycle about 65-70 per cent of the aluminium used in their household, thousands of tons of this is discarded each year.

Lets start with a good fact, today U.S. recycles 28 per cent of its waste--a rate that has almost doubled during the past 15 years.

If you are concerned about the environment, you already know not to just throw those empty cartridges and toners in the trash. Through those disposal means, your empty ink containers could end up sitting in the landfill for decades. The good news is there are better ways to dispose of these items and many of these methods are helpful to the environment.
