A topic that is not discussed very often is aquarium lighting for reef tanks. Although this topic is not discussed very much it is very important within a salt water reef tank.

Sumps are being used more and more in aquariums nowadays. The reason is that a lot of the required equipment can be hidden from view in the aquarium sump. Equipment such as protein skimmers, heaters, calcium reactors etc.

Magnesium is often one of the most overlooked properties of your reef’s synthetic seawater and although this is one of the most important factors considered in growth and health of most stony corals. Just like calcium and alkalinity magnesium is depleted by your reef inhabitants.

When shopping for fish, it might be tempting to pick the rare and fancy fish full of colors, and exotic looking shrimp or crustaceans. Saltwater aquariums should generally contain fewer fish than fresh water tanks, because the species tend to grow bigger in size. Marine species may be bred in a captive environment, or caught in the wild. Captive bred species are easier to care for and usually hardier than caught species. It generates a great amount of stress for a fish to be captured in the wild and then introduced into an aquarium.

Having an aquarium is a fun hobby for many, and it brings so much color and life into the room that it is placed in. Before you go out and buy one, you need to decide whether this is a casual or serious hobby, and how much time you are willing to put into maintaining the water balance of the tank.

You've been to the pet store and noticed the fish tanks and thought "maybe I could do that". Guess what, you can "do that" and it's not nearly as difficult as you may think.

That is the reason why calcium reactors are so important to be used in aquariums. These calcium reactors can produce calcium continuously in the tank to the precise levels required so that optimal conditions are maintained. Calcium reactors will use up the carbon dioxide that is given off as a waste product into the aquarium and generate calcium, which can be useful in a number of ways to the inhabitants of the aquarium.

Freshwater fish have advantages, since the fish will adapt to most Aquarium types. Freshwater fish tend to be more relaxed and informal than saltwater fish. For that reason, freshwater fish is the choice for starters. Freshwater fish embrace the tropical and the Coldwater fishes. Saltwater fish include the Powder Blue Surgeonfish and the Clown Surgeonfish.

If you have a home aquarium, chances are you already have several filtration units taking care of the water. A UV sterilizer is a good addition to an aquarium, although it should be the last stage of the filtration process. It's important that aquarium water passes through the mechanical filter before moving through the UV unit.
