Almost everyone thinks they know how to write a screenplay. Weve all heard someone watching TV saying I could write better script than that!

Writing a screenplay is exhaustive and can have many hurdles. One of the most difficult hurdles screenwriters face is breaking out of a creative rut. Here are 7 ways that I've used to break my writers block and get my creative writing back on track.

A screenplay or script is a blueprint for creating a motion image. It can be modified from a previous work. For example-from a short story, play, novel or it could be from an original work in and of itself.

One of the most difficult parts of writing a great screenplay is creating captivating dialogue. The primary reason is because dialogue is not real-life speech. It might sound like it when you hear it on the screen, but if you really focus on what the characters are saying you'll realize screenplay dialogue is much more focused.

Let's face it, writing a screenplay can be tough. It's a daunting task. Especially if you've never written one before. I'm sure you've been stuck in a darkened theater watching a less than stellar movie and said to yourself, "I can do better than that!" The truth is, you probably can ... if you'd just "get yourself" out of the way.

Creating original and memorable characters can set a screenplay apart from the pack. Strong characters can help to capture the imagination of viewers and hold their interest long after the movie has ended. And because too often movies wind up filled with the same, stereotypical people that viewers have seen time and time again, they can offer writers an opportunity to stretch beyond the everyday.

A horror movie has certain rules. If you break too many the audience will be disappointed.

This is a very short, no fluff, blueprint of how to write a horror script.

When we think about favorite movies, it is the rich and engaging story lines and the captivating characters that make them memorable. There are, of course, other important elements at play, such as costumes, settings or a favorite actor that is part of the film. But the core of any movie is the script, which is the vessel for the storyline, the conflict, the characters and the dialogue, and details a visual translation of those ideas. Without a good script, there is no great movie! On first glance, being a movie screenwriter may seem to be an overnight way to make millions. In fact, it is a very difficult task that requires skill, endurance and some luck. If you believe you have the ability.

Let me get to the most important thing first: Director Martin Scorsese won an Oscar for "The Departed". Scorsese, one of the most accomplished directors of our era, has been nominated for 7 Oscars-5 for Best Director and 2 for Best Screenplay-before winning with The Departed. The Departed is simply the best mob film since Mario Puzo's original Godfather in 1972.

Screenwriting is a competitive trade. To distinguish yourself as a prize-winning writer you need to master organizational skills, take creative risks, and learn how best to present your final product.

The process for hiring a freelance screenwriter is similar to hiring a freelance writer for other genres of writing. Although the writing processes are vastly different, very similar precautions should be taken for both scenarios.

The term screenplay refers to the script for a feature-length movie. There was a time when all feature length movies were released into movie theaters. That time is now past. With the development of first video and then DVDs, and the emergence of major chain store video rentals, any number of feature-length movies bypass theaters entirely, and are released straight to DVD.

Nominated for five Academy Awards, and winner of Best Screenplay adapted from an outside source, Sideways turned out to be one of the surprise blockbusters of 2004. Based on the Rex Pickett novel of the same name, Sideways is a clever comedy about wine, life, and a group of friends - each in search of his unique identity. Unlike the plot-driven movies that traditionally dominate Hollywood, Sideways is one of those rare pictures which actually "reads" like a novel.
