Irregular verbs, or rather the learning of irregular verbs, cause anxiety to many language students, that can be countered by using a positive mental approach.This article provides a method for achieving the positive mental approach required to relieve students' stress.

In Spanish there are just as many tenses as there are in English, this being twelve all together however, in Spanish as opposed to English there are more structures to these tenses. For instance in English we say 'my name is Gianni' but in Spanish this is more complicated. This simple structure in Spanish could not be translated directly as the structure in Spanish is 'I call myself Gianni' which is 'Yo me llamo Gianni' in Latin American countries or 'Me llamo Gianni' in Spain where the subject pronoun is generally dropped. (Apart from situations when ambiguity could be a problem).

In Spanish, there is no literal equivalent to the English verb ‘to like’, in fact the nearest in both meaning and, more importantly, in the way that it is used, is the verb gustar, which literally translated means ‘to please’. To emphasize this; if you were to say in English, ‘I like my coffee strong’, the Spanish equivalent when translated would be ‘Strong coffee pleases me’. The use of the verb gustar is actually very simple compared to other Spanish verbs.

Tener is one of the most commonly used irregular verbs in Spanish and as such will need to be learned thoroughlyfrom an early stage in your Spanish studies.This article will highlight the use of Tener and how it is used in some common Spanish Idioms.
