We saw an interesting article about starvation in which the comment was made that there are really two types of starvation. One, of course, is caused by too little or no food at all. But there is another type of starvation caused by serious malnutrition, and even though the U.S. is the fattest nation on the planet, our bodies are starved for important nutrients and enzymes.

Many of the crazy youngsters go to the extreme levels like starvation to become trim and slim without knowing the harmful effects of it. Starvation can make you deficient of vital vitamins and nutrients required by the body. These deficiencies of essential nutrients can add to the debilities that may even leads to death.

Fasting and starvation is not the same thing, although those who try fasting for the first time argue that they feel the same. Fasting only deprives the body from a daily supply of fresh fuel, prompting to use the stored ones. Starvation, on the other hand, occurs when the body has used up all the stored energy and begins using essential tissues such as like muscles for an energy source. Careful monitoring should be done to halt the fasting period before starvation begins.

Dieting is not effective in controlling weight over the long term. You may get a temporary weight loss but you are 95 per cent more likely to regain the weight after you stop the diet. The worst fact about dieting is that after a diet, you will probably gain more weight (fat) than previously and you will have more difficulty in losing the weight again. This is called the Yo Yo effect.

Everybody knows that calories are the enemy, and that more calories equals more weight gained. Therefore, most people believe that losing weight is as simple as cutting way back on calories.

It's just simple mathematics, right?

After all, if you're eating 3,000 calories per day and you cut back to 1,000 calories per day, then those extra 2,000 calories have to be burned from your body, right?

It's as simple as 2 + 2 equals 4, right? Well, this is not exactly true.

Ask yourself this important question. Who do you know that was once overweight, lost a ton of pounds, tossed themselves into size 4 dresses, and is now right back where they started? That's right! Each and every one of those people you thought of took it off, then put it right back on, and probably did it in record time…the putting it on pounds I mean.

Unfortunately, the whole idea of being thin and beautiful has sent thousands of women all over the country on a starvation diet.

Anorexia is the result of many psychological factors combined to push the patient to starve themselves. But one thing is for certain, if left untreated, unfortunately anorexia can lead to death!
