Oxygen is vital to us and our bodies. As we breathe, it helps us produce energy, and as the oxygen is used by our bodies, specific organisms known as free radicals, are made. They work in tandem with body cells creating oxidative stress, that is, cell damage. In this way the cells proteins, genes, and membrane may be affected. Links have been made between oxidative stress and a variety of diseases and even the ageing process itself.

One of the major symptoms associated with social anxiety is stress. Stress works two ways - the social anxiety can cause it, and the stress can intensify the social anxiety. Stress can be a big problem, because it leads to other health related problems, such as high blood pressure or heart attack.

It is now known that stress can actually stop you losing weight especially around your middle. Stress can cause your body to secrete high levels of cortisol hormone into your bloodstream, because of your body's "flight or fight" response to your stress. Stress can be either psychological (mental and emotional) or physical. By reducing stress you can help reduce cortisol levels and so lose weight.

Research has proven that relieving stress with exercise is one of the best ways to improve your overall health. Regular exercise provides an amazing array of anti-stress benefits to the human body -- including reduced muscle tension, improved cardiovascular functioning, increased blood oxygen levels, and reduced cholesterol and triglyceride levels, just to name a few.
