The Sumerians developed a religion and a society which influenced both their neighbors and their conquerors. The Babylonians, who also took many of their religious beliefs, borrowed Sumerian cuneiform, the earliest written language. In fact, traces and parallels of Sumerian myth can be found in Genesis.

Sundials have been around since the days of the Sumerians, some five thousand years ago, and were the earliest known means of keeping time. As to whether you can actually tell time by using a sundial, that's a bit trickier.

The Egyptians made most of their bracelets out of a variety of materials they could find in nearby hills and deserts. They were among the first to make bracelets with precious gemstones and enameling. Gemstones were considered to have powers.

Aquarium keeping has been an age-old practice. The Sumerians, the ancient people of Mesopotamia have been keeping fishes in ponds since at least 4,500 years ago. Other early human cultures that fashioned aquarium keeping include the Egyptians, the Asians the Chinese, the Japanese and the Romans. These ancient aquariums served several purposes including entertainment, a place to breed fishes for market as also a ready source of food.
