Synthetic fibers are man-made materials used in rug-making to replace natural fibers but still giving an area rug the same feel. Since area rugs made of pure wool is costly than that made with synthetic materials, rugs made of nylon, acrylic, and the like are cheaper. Hence, This article states the characteristics of some synthetic fibers and how they are similar to natural ones.

Natural materials are animal and plant fibers used in rug-making. This article enumerates some of the natural fibers and their characteristics.
