One of the biggest problems schools have is finding and keeping qualified teachers. We're going to take a look at why this is and what is being done about it. Teaching English in Korea is one of the more challenging jobs. As it turns out, more than the audience, it is the logistics that you have that add to your worries. Over the many years that I have taught I have seen one fact that is always constant. TEACHERS Is your child having trouble learning? Here is a brief overview of three learning styles prevalent in most children. Can't decide whether you want to teach in public school, private school, college or even business school? This look at the options for teachers may help you to decide. What if your eight-year-old choked on an eraser? Or your 15-year-old was horsing around in class, fell, hit his head, and then suffocated on his tongue? It may be difficult to imagine, but how would your child’s teacher react to such an emergency in the classroom? Shouldn’t all teachers be CPR certified? Cover letters for teachers need to emphasize qualifications as well as attitude. Education professionals need to come into the field with an attitude of service coupled with a commitment to excellence and a desire to work closely with students. It should reflect all of these points, as should resumes for teachers, and any other self marketing materials used by education professionals. Have you ever wondered what the qualities of a really professional teacher are? I know that all teachers want their students to like them, but being liked isn't the be-all and end-all really, is it? I mean teachers have to make some unpopular decisions sometimes. A recent poll asked whether English teachers should have a degree of some type. Approximately 64 per cent of the respondents thought they should have a degree for teaching ESL: quite a high "yes" because, as always, there were some "don't know" meanings that makes the "no" camp very small.
I recently discussed a recurring issue following this question from an employer:
"My teachers do an excellent job in the classroom and feedback from students is positive. But when it comes to administrative duties, I find they are lax. Registers are sometimes forgotten, lesson records are sketchy, and reports on students are late and not very full. How can I make teachers understand that these duties are as much a part of their job as teaching?" If you're thinking about becoming a teacher you may want to read this article first. It just may change your mind about what you want to do with the rest of your life. This is a very touching topic and should be shared with the young especially. Because when we are young, in the outside radius among the good and the bad god sends us teachers to help us understand the right path. Besides just opening the book and teaching us what is in it. They teach why it is important to study and read the book we hold in our hands. They reprimand us when we wrong them or our neighbour, but we do not take that in good spirit. It seems that some schools combine long hours with revolving days off so that teachers find it hard to recharge their batteries, let alone keep up the quality of their teaching.
As so often this comes back to cultural norms. Many teachers come from a background in which it is normal for the working week to run from Monday to Friday leaving Saturday and Sunday free. It can thus be difficult to adjust to working, say, six days before a day off arrives. One of the first things teachers need to do every year is get all of their students' names memorized. Unfortunately, learning the names of the students is often a difficult task for many teachers to accomplish…especially middle school teachers and high school teachers. Students in Elementary Schools love to share their talents and to basically 'show off'. Teachers have found a multitude of ways to let them share their talents and knowledge through Science Fairs, History Days, Plays, Musicals, Programs, Spelling Bees and many other things, but rarely have they done anything with PE Skills other than to play sports. Any one can teach. How many of you have heard this? Well, I'm here to tell you that this is false. Everyone can teach, but not in a classroom. Some years ago the newspaper reported of a very successful lawyer who had always dreamed of being a teacher. He had made a lot of money as a lawyer and decided to follow his dream and become a teacher. He became a teacher and because he was a very successful lawyer he felt that he could be a very successful teacher. He started in September and lasted until Christmas and then resigned. It was too much work. Considering the fact that students spend a great part of their life at school, one may come to conclusion that schools contribute significantly into overall 'quality' of life of students. No wonder that personality of a teacher is of crucial importance; moreover, some teachers turn into extremely important people for the whole life due to the impact they make while teaching us. Have you imagined yourself as one of the ESL teachers in another country and being well paid for it? The jobs in ESL offer you the chance of getting good compensation as well as residing for a spell in another country. So you get two birds with just a stone. You need not have teaching experience, but you need a Bachelors degree to qualify for a teaching post. But of course, you must have loads of patience and determination to succeed. Thirty seven years spent in an ordinary average classroom has given me a lot of insight into what is a teacher friendly program. Teacher friendly programs realize that teachers are always under the gun when it comes to time. Their time for putting on a program is very limited with all the other things that require their time.
