It has been said that for every job there is a tool. That is the case with the tools used to apply the product commercially known as Venetian Plaster. At a seminar on Marmorino hosted by Rivesto-Marmorino(c) several months ago, there was an old plasterer from New Castle, Penn., that looked at these trowels and said, "What are these things?" He couldn't understand their shape or why they where so flexible and the end was curved.

Not only is real Venetian Plaster absolutely beautiful, it is also quite environmentally-friendly for use within a healthy home. Where other wall coverings may harbor and encourage the growth of mold, for example, Venetian Plaster does not.

Colorwashes were used in several of the beautiful homes. A colorwash uses glaze combined with paint, which is typically brushed with long strokes on the surface to be painted with the result of a subtle color wash on the area. Glaze is simply paint that has been thinned with whatever medium is appropriate to the paint, depending on whether is is water or oil-based. Because the glaze has been thinned, it offers the artist a product that can be used to create a transparent color layer over a bottom color. This allows the faux painter to artistically layer colors on the painted surface, making for a rich, gorgeous painting treatment.
